Depakote birth injury: Tetralogy of Fallot

Tetralogy of Fallot is congenital heart defect that causes low oxygen in the blood. This condition causes the child to have a bluish-purple look to their skin.

The most common form of the defect is related to four heart and blood vessel issues. Ventricular septal defect, which is hole between the ventricles; the narrowing of the pulmonary outflow tract; thickened wall of the right artery, and an overriding aorta.

Factors that increase the risk of this disorder are alcoholism in the mother, poor nutrition during pregnancy and diabetes. Recently, woman who were prescribed Depakote when they were pregnant have claimed that their children developed this condition along with many other serious birth defects.
