Expectant parents seek support online for their unborn baby with anencephaly

A couple from Pennsylvania put up a Facebook page to rally support and prayers for their first unborn baby diagnosed with anencephaly, reported on August 23.

Expectant mother Jenna Gassew and partner Dan Haley were devastated upon learning of the condition of their unborn baby after just two months of pregnancy. The couple put up the Facebook page “Prayers for Shane” to cope with pain and get support from their relatives and friends. The couple continues to show their love for their unborn son experiencing all they can with him, like visiting the petting zoo and making a family trip to see the Phillies. Unfortunately, the prognosis for anencephaly is poor, but the couple has maintained a positive outlook during this tough time.

Center for Disease Control (CDC) said that there is one (1) in every 4,859 infants in the U.S. born with anencephaly. The cause is not certain, but there is an elevated risk if the fetus has been exposed to the mood-stabilizing drug Depakote. If you suspect the congenital defect of your loved one is caused by the defective drug, a lawyer may possibly help you pursue damage claims from negligent drug makers.
