FDA approves alternative to open heart surgery

People with the condition, aortic stenosis are often not healthy enough to undergo open heart surgery. Patients can now consider a minimally invasive heart valve replacement procedure. This procedure was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

During the procedure, a catheter is inserted through an artery in the patient’s groin and guided up to the heart. The artificial valve will then replace the defective valve. Researchers found that patients who undergo this procedure have a reduced mortality rate and dramatically improved quality of life.

Sadly, aortic stenosis is a serious birth defect. The medicine, Depakote has been to birth defects in babies whose mothers took the drug during their pregnancy. If you have been affected by the negative effects of Depakote, you could be eligible to pursue compensation. Call 800-761-3187 to discuss your legal options with an attorney from Williams Hart.
