Detecting scoliosis in children

Scoliosis screenings are important for early detection of scoliosis and corrective treatment. By performing a physical test, doctors can usually determine if a child has scoliosis or not.

Standard testing procedure usually involves the patient to stand at an upright position and then bend at the waist while maintaining relaxed arms. This basic test allows doctors to see how the spine curves when the patient bends.

In addition to manual testing, physicians are also able to conduct neurological tests in order to assess the functionality of patient motor response. Scoliosis severity can be seen through the use of simple X-ray imaging.

Unfortunately, the prescription Depakote has been known to cause birth defects, particularly scoliosis. Women who took the anti-seizure medication while pregnant could benefit from the legal counsel of an experienced attorney if their child suffered any defects due to the medication. Contact Williams Hart if you live near Houston and your child has suffered birth defects from Depakote. Give us a call 800-761-3187.
