Treating aortic valve stenosis through Balloon valvuloplasty

When a person has aortic stenosis, there may a variety of different treatment options available. However, one of the options in treating this health problem is balloon valvuloplasty or valvotomy.

In valvotomy, a soft and thin catheter tube with a balloon on the other end will be inserted by a doctor into the patient’s blood vessel, either going through the arm or groin and into the heart, targeting the affected aortic valve. Once the catheter is in place, the balloon on the other end of the tube will be inflated to normalize blood flow by opening and pushing the aortic valves. Once done, the balloon will be deflated and the catheter will be pulled out of the body.

Valvotomy treatment is found to be an effective relief for babies and children. For adults, the treatment is not commonly used because the aortic valves tend to contract again after the treatment.

Before undergoing any medical treatment, you should speak with a medical professional about your options.

Sadly, aortic valve stenosis is a congenital defect linked to the use of Depakote by pregnant mothers. If your child has developed this birth defect as a result of this dangerous drug, our lawyers at Williams Hart might be able to help you file a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
