Surgery may be more beneficial then medication when treating epilepsy

A surgical procedure may now be the best way to combat seizures from occurring in epilepsy patients.

Recently, there have been more and more evidence that shows that performing surgical procedures on patients that have drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy will help relieve them of seizures.

In a study done on the surgical procedures, the patients who underwent surgical procedures were 73 percent more likely to be seizure-free during their next visit.

Surgery is usually the last option considered for seizure treatment and is usually not recommended unless the patient has suffered from seizures for over 20 years. Thirty-eight patients were analyzed in the study that all had failed attempts at using medication to help their epilepsy.

If you or a loved one has used the antiseizure medication in order to treat your epilepsy and were prescribed it during pregnancy without knowing of the increased risk. Contact the Depakote birth defect lawyers of Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187 today.
