San Francisco study done on seizure recovery

According to a nationwide study done in San Francisco, seizure patients have a better chance of recovering from any brain issue if paramedics inject the patients with medication at the scene.

“It’s going to make it more likely the seizure will stop by the time they get to the hospital,” said Dr. Claude Hemphill, a neurologist at San Francisco General Hospital. “There’s really no reason for agencies not to switch to this method right away.”

Seizures can lead to brain damage and possibly death so the faster that treatment can be administered, the better. The study looked into the effectiveness of an IV and a syringe, similar to an EpiPen.

The results found that 73 percent of people who receive the EpiPen were seizure free by the time the got to the hospital compared to 63 percent of patients who received the medication through the IV. Those had the direct injection were less likely to require hospital stay.

The antiseizure medication, Depakote, has been linked to the development of birth defects if taken during pregnancy. If this has happened to you or  a loved one, you need representation on your side. Contact the Depakote lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187.
