Four percent of U.S. adults have Bipolar disorder

In the U.S. nearly four percent of all adults will have Bipolar disorder, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Out of those that suffer from the disorder, many of them suffer severe side effects.

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive disorder, is a condition in the brain that causes mood swings that change the energy levels and a person’s ability to function to alter. A shift in moods can be anywhere from mania to depression.

Mania is considered a state of “overexcitment” and includes side effects of irritability, impulsiveness and a short attention span. This mania can be characterized by taking on new projects, high risk activity or increased sexual activity. Someone with Bipolar disorder can shift from mania to serious depression. Side effects of this include sadness, fatigue, change in sleep patterns, and suicidal thoughts.

There are many types of Bipolar disorder and this can make treatment for the disease somewhat difficult. One medication that is used to treat the manic episodes in Bipolar disorder is depakote, but recently it has been tied to an increased risk of birth defects if taken while pregnant.

If this has happened to you orĀ  loved one, you need representation that can help you through this difficult time by helping you receive the financial compensation you deserve. Contact the Depakote lawsuit lawyers of Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187 today.
