A new study is suggesting that surgery to correct epilepsy may be proving to be a beneficial long term treatment.
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine have recently done a study on 361 epilepsy patients that all had the surgery done by the same surgeon between the years 1967 and 1990.
Over 115 completed follow-up interviews in order to discuss their quality of life post-surgery. Better outcomes, as far as seizures are concerned, were seen in those who received “temporal lobe resection” than other treatments. The study shows that this treatment does seem to show benefits over multiple decades and may help the lives of those who suffer from this tremendously.
Other treatment options for epilepsy may include medications, such as Depakote. This antiseizure medication has been in the news recently because of the side effects associated with is when taken during pregnancy. If you or a loved one’s child has suffered from a birth defect as a result of using Depakote, contact the Depakote attorneys of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.
