National Birth Defect Prevention Awareness Month sheds light on congenital heart disease

The National Birth Defect Prevention Awareness Month took place in January and shed light on the frequency and danger of congenital heart defects.

Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects and birth defects are the leading cause of death of infants in the U.S. Officials are hoping that the birth defect awareness campaign awareness month helped push people to take the steps needed in order to prevent heart defects.

Birth defects are reported in nearly one in every 25 births, 40,000 cases, each year. Women are urged to not use alcohol or drugs and avoid smoke and chemicals during pregnancy in order to lessen the chances that a birth defect could occur.

Certain prescription medications have been linked to the increased risk of birth defects. If you or a loved one is planning to become pregnant and are taking Depakote, you may want to check with your doctor about risks that may be associated with the use of it during pregnancy. If you or loved one’s child has suffered a birth defect as a result of using Depakote, contact the Depakote birth defects lawsuit lawyers of Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187 today.
