FDA discusses 10 drugs linked to birth defects

The Food and Drug Administration has madeĀ  list of 10 different medications that have recently been linked to birth defects when they are taken during pregnancy. Each medication is in different stages of research and testing, but links have been made between them and a potential danger to babies.

Many of the antidepressants on the list are in the class of antidepressants considered selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors including Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, and Prozac. Each of these medications has been tied to birth defects when taken during pregnancy.

Other medications include antiseizure drugs that are prescribed to people who suffer from epilepsy. Depakote and Topamax are two of these. Depakote is also prescribed to people with bipolar disorder and Topamax is prescribed to people who suffer from severe migraines. Birth defects associated with these medications include, cleft lip and palate, hypospadius and heart defects.

If someone you love was prescribed Depakote during pregnancy and their child suffered a birth defect as a result, contact the Depakote birth defects lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187.
