Treatment for club foot

The antiepileptic medication, Depakote, is used to treat epilepsy, bipolar disorder and migraines, but it has recently been in the news because of an increased risk of developing birth defects if taken during pregnancy.

One birth defect that has been linked to the use of Depakote during pregnancy is club foot. It may not be as life threatening as other birth defects, but treatment is still very important and it can be very expensive.

A few treatment options for the defect include treatment with or without surgery. Treatment without surgery occurs when the foot is set in a cast a few days after birth so that the foot can hopefully set in the correct place. Surgery is usually done after the child is 9-months-old in order to repair joints and tendons. Physical therapy can also be used in order to help out more mild cases of club foot.

If your child suffered a birth defect as a result of using Depakote during pregnancy, you need experienced representation on your side. Contact the Depakote club foot lawyers of Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187 today.
